Short-term employment
Requirements
The short-term employment program (Kurzfristige Beschäftigung) or “quota-regulated short-term employment” allows foreign nationals to work in Germany for a limited period under simplified procedures. The program is mainly used for seasonal or temporary jobs.
🔹 What does the program include?
1. Time limitation
In most cases, the maximum duration of work is 90 days per calendar year.
In some seasonal sectors, different conditions may apply, but the 90-day limit is standard.
2. Type of work
The program covers positions where there is a temporary high demand for labor, for example:
Agriculture
Production
Logistics
Hotel and restaurant sector (Horeca)
Seasonal work
3. Qualification requirements
Special qualifications or diplomas are often not required, as the work is usually learned on site.
Knowledge of German is generally not mandatory, but it can be an additional advantage.
4. Employment permit
Approval from the Federal Employment Agency (BA) is required.
The employer is also responsible for submitting the application.
5. Contract and conditions
The employee receives a German employment contract, specifying salary, working hours, accommodation, and other conditions.
The salary must comply with Germany’s minimum wage.
6. Social security
Short-term employment is often exempt from certain social security contributions, because the employment period is short.
